Roman Gastelum is a versatile acoustic and electric bassist, vocalist, lyricist, and composer based in Los Angeles, CA. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of genres—including jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul, country, classical, electronic, alternative, indie, rock, and pop—Roman is a dynamic presence in the LA music scene. As a sought-after session musician, he records and performs live, while also sharing his passion through private lessons. A reflective lyricist and innovative composer, he creates both artistic and commercial works. Roman leads his eclectic progressive rock project, Jigsaw Falling, as its bassist, vocalist, and lyricist.
Roman released his highly anticipated debut album, “EQuilibrium”, on September 29, 2023. Entirely composed and arranged by Roman, the project features a talented ensemble of Los Angeles musicians, including tenor saxophonist and engineer Brandon Wilkins, trumpeter Aaron Janik, guitarist Andy Waddell, keyboardist Scott Tibbs, drummer Jason Prushko, and Roman on bass and vocals. The album blends boom bap hip-hop with bop and post-bop jazz, reflecting Roman’s vision of achieving a true musical balance. It also incorporates influences from UK sounds and diverse modern styles.
